Ohaio gozaimasu!  Good morning!
Wake up and smell the Tea!
Day 4 - 6/14   Revised 6/15/06
A blurry eyed "gaigin" wakes up and wonders ... Where's the coffee?  There is no coffee...yikes!  Does this tea have enough caffiene to start me off in this new world???  As it turns out, it wasn't all that bad, even without sugar!
Technical Note:  As things get busier, I might not be able to add all of the content I want on a particular page.  I might not even add movie clips or all of the text, pictures, links to sites or even links to bigger views of the same picture, until I get home.  Thus I have added a "Revised" date, so that my virtual travelers will know if there is additional content that has been added.
Here's the somewhat panoramic view from my room in the Akasaka Prince Hotel:
Breakfast was an adventure in flavors and smells. It was a buffet, so I mainly tried Japanese dishes ...
We then had opening remarks from David Satterwhite and Tsutomo ("Tom") Kimura, President of the National Institution for Academic Degrees, who very frankly told us about their concerns for students in public education, particularly boys in the 12 to 15 year old catagory.  Of great concern is that they REALLY don't like math!
Apparently there was a time when math was an honored undertaking, as evidenced by this photo of a wood carving taken in a shrine.
It's showtime in the afternoon, folks!!!
